As we move into the planning stages for the 2020 Richwood Independent Fair we, the Richwood Independent Fairboard, wanted to make you aware of a change that was recently approved at our November regular meeting.
The Richwood Independent Fairboard has voted to allow sales of alcoholic beverages during the Grandstand Concert that will take place next year. The concert will be the only night alcohol will be sold and it will be contained to the grandstand area.
Planning for the change has already begun as well. We understand that adding alcohol to the fairgrounds will take more preparation and security and we have every intention of making sure that when it is done, it is done right. Concert night will not only have more security practices in place, but also more law enforcement as well to ensure the night is a success.
The decision to start selling alcohol at the fair was not a decision that was taken lightly. The fairboard heard mostly positive feedback from the 2019 fair with a good majority stating the fair last year was the “best fair yet”. In 2019 the fair profited approximately $800 after the bills were paid. While we understand the fair is not ever going to be a major money making venture, nor do we expect it to be, we must be more profitable at the end of the day to keep the fair alive through years in which our weather is not as cooperative as it was in 2019.
The Richwood Independent Fair has always and will always be made possible by our community. We think transparency is very important to our organization and wanted to get this information out to the public as soon as possible. Together, we hope we can have an even more successful 2020! ... We've supported our Independent fair 40 years. Alcohol will stop it.
People already bring it in! I ran into quite a few people who were trashed at the concert last year. So they might as well sell it and make the profit!
Thinking outside the box is appreciated... we are so fortunate to have our long-standing independent fair. Try it once and let the numbers speak for themselves. Thanks Fairboard for all of your hard work. It’s my favorite week of the year!!
I think it's a great idea and a good way to make extra money for the fair. To the people who don't like it, it's only one day of the fair. And actually it's only one evening not even a whole day. Great job to our fair board for trying new things to make money for our wonderful fair. Thank you for all your efforts to continually make our fair better.
I think this is a natural addition to a big concert and am not upset about it in the least. Our Fair Board works hard to make an amazing experience every year and 2019 was outstanding so I have great faith in the how this will be executed.
Bad decision! This will be the beginning of the end of the Richwood Fair! Sad!!
Appreciate all the time, effort and hard work everyone puts into making the fair a success. Thank you!!
Thank you. Your transparency is greatly appreciated.
Sell Beer everyday then 🤷🏻♂️🍺
How do I go about being a vendor at the fair? Setting up a tent?
I don't agree with your decision of selling alcoholic beverages at the 2020 Richwood Independent Fair. I don't think alcohol needs to be present at a family event with children present but I do commend you for publicly posting this letter so the public will know well in advance. Thank you.
I have been to multiple fairs that sell beer on the Midway daily. It is really not as big of a deal as people think.
Wait. We wasnt allowed to drink there last year?
Thanks for the information just so you know the Union County Drug Free Coalition is happy to sponsor a server training for any groups/volunteers or businesses who will be serving alcohol. We also have some other tools that may be helpful for your alcohol sales.
